The Helmet of Salvation is like any type of helmet that protects the head, the brain. In other words, it protects our minds. The forgiveness Jesus extended us in mercy and grace led us to salvation and righteousness in him. Our salvation is the on-going process of making us into “new men.” The old is gone, therefore old temptations and sins were crucified with Jesus; they were destroyed so that we too can resurrect new and whole. |
For the week ahead, consider these words from Jojo Reinhardt. This is the helmet of salvation: protection from the lies, twistings of truth, compromises, and temptations with which the lusts of the flesh, fallen world, and our enemy assails. The helmet also protects us from discouragement and insecurity and even despair. We are children of God and He loves us! We need to be careful what we think – test it with the Word of God. “A Roman soldier’s helmet could take a crushing blow and protect him in battle. Even if his helmet was damaged, he could still march forward. But without his helmet, he was very vulnerable. For the Christian, the helmet of salvation speaks of protecting our minds. The mind is command central. If we were to retrace our steps whenever we give in to a temptation, we would discover that it started in our mind.
