“Thought For The Day”
When a person dies to the old life and accepts Christ as Savior, a new life begins. (ref. Romans 7:4)
Some people try to earn their way to God by keeping a set of rules (obeying the Ten Commandments, attending church faithfully, or doing good deeds). But all they earn for their efforts is frustration and discouragement. However, because of Christ’s sacrifice, the way to God is already open, and we can become His children simply by putting our faith in Him (Jesus Christ). No longer trying to reach God by keeping rules , we can become more and more like Jesus as we live for Him day by day. Let the Holy Spirit turn your eyes away from your own performance and toward Jesus. He will free you to serve Him out of love and gratitude. This “is living in the Spirit.” (reference Romans 7:6)

No amount of work, discipline, or moral behavior can save us. If a person were counting on finding favor with being circumcised, he would also have to obey the rest of God’s law completely. Trying to save ourselves by keeping all Gods laws only separates us from God. We are saved by faith, not by deeds. But love for others and for God, is the response for those whom God has forgiven. God’s forgiveness is complete, and Jesus said that those who are forgiven much, love much (Luke 7:47). Because faith expresses itself through love for others as a way to monitor your faith. Persecution proves that Paul was teaching the true good news. If he had taught what the false teachers were teaching no one would be offended. But because he was teaching the truth he was persecuted (Galatians 5:3-11).
And as the week ahead unfolds - remember: Just a little yeast causes a whole lump of dough to rise - it only takes one wrong person to infect all the others. Galatians 5:9 Jesus tells us, that even though the earth will pass away, the truth of His words will never be changed or abolished. God and His word provide the only stability in our unstable world. How shortsighted people are who spend all their time and energy learning about this temporary world and accumulating it’s possessions, while neglecting the Bible and it’s eternal truths.
When Jesus said that even he did not know the time of the end, he was affirming his humanity. Of course God the Father knows the time, and Jesus and the Father are one - but when Jesus became a man, He voluntarily gave up the unlimited use of His divine attributes. And remember . . . No one can predict by scripture or science the exact day of Jesus return. Jesus is teaching that preparation, not calculation is needed. Those who were trying to be saved by keeping the old Testament law were soon tied up in rules and ceremonies. But now through the Holy Spirit, God provides freedom from sin and condemnation. When we trust Christ to save us, He removes our heavy burden of trying to please Him and failing to do so. By trusting Christ we are loved, accepted, forgiven and freed to live for Him. “Wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. The glory that the Spirit imparts to the believer lasts longer then the glory that Moses experienced. By gazing at the nature of God with unveiled minds, we can be more like Him, in the good news, we see the truth about Christ, and it transforms us morally as we understand and apply it.
And don't forget our “Thought For The Day” As our knowledge deepens, the Holy Spirit helps us to change. Becoming Christlike, is a progressive experience. We often depend on our own skills and abilities when life seems easy and only turn to God when we feel unable to help ourselves. But as we realize our own powerlessness without Him and our need for His constant help in our lives,we come to depend on Him more and more. God is our source of power, and we receive His help by keeping in touch with Him. With this attitude of dependence, problems will drive us to God rather then away from Him. Learn how to rely on God daily. Reference 2 Corinthians 1:8-10
