This is the story of Chester’s grandpa (Charles) and his grandpa's brother (Cecil) – when they were young and rambunctious, and both needing work (but mostly to keep busy and out of trouble).
The Narrows Community Church was in need of a white wash – looking old and dull from the years of hard weather. Charles & Cecil said they would paint the church for half the cost of what all the others said it would take to get the job done. They got the job and were given 10 gallons of paint to paint the whole church. Charles and Cecil knew that 10 gallons would not cover it all so they had to thin the paint down to get the job done.
It was a nice day when they started early in the morning. They thinned the paint so instead of 10 gallons, they now had 20 gallons and were ready to go. It all went well to start, the paint went on well and the old wood sucked up the paint as they went. By noon, they were about 2/3rds of the way done and only had about 2 gallons left and a long way yet to go.
Cecil told Charles to thin down the rest so they would have enough to finish the job. Chester did so but he told Cecil they also had to hurry up and finish because it looked like rain would be coming soon. Although they looked like crazy chipmunks scrambling up and down and around the church – they got it done just before it rained and yes, they even had a tiny amount of white wash left. They cleaned up and headed home, happy for a long day of painting being done.
That night, the rain had come and went so Charles & Cecil scrambled up to the church to see how it looked. They were shocked to see that most of what they had last painted… had washed off in the rain. They were sad little chipmunks. As they shook their heads and wondered what they should do… a booming voice from above said…. “Repaint, Repaint & Thin No More!”
Let’s just say – Charles & Cecil didn’t waste any time getting some more paint and finished the job the way they should have.
