Our review through the 'History' section of the Bible continues with a combined brief review of the Books of First Samuel and Second Samuel (the ninth & tenth books of the Bible). Our summary of these is:
Who wrote First & Second Samuel and when?
Who wrote First & Second Samuel and when?
It is attributed to Samuel, with additions by the prophets Gad and Nathan and written over the 1050-750 BC time-frame. What is it all about? These 2 books cover the history between Israel and Judah over those years; the life of Samuel, and of Saul, of David's rise to power and of his love for God, his sins and how the Lord dealt with him. |
Why should we know this?
From these books we learn how God uses people to bring about His will for our world; how the nation of Israel got a King (Saul – although flawed), how prominent that King David and his line was (2 Samuel 7 teaches us the Promise of God that a Messiah will come from David's line), along with the ramifications of sin and the benefits of humility and pursuing repentance. |
