Our review through the 'History' section of the Bible continues with our brief review of the Book of Ruth (the eighth book of the Bible). Our summary of it is:
Who wrote Ruth and when?
It is attributed to Samuel and written over the 1046-1035 BC time-frame.
What is it all about?
It tells of the the faithful foreigner (Ruth). On how she (a Moabite) starts out as a widow with Naomi (her mother-in-law), how she accepts the god of the Israelites as her god and the Israelite people as her own; she stays with Naomi and how she meets and weds Boaz.
Why should we know this? From it we learn to demonstrate the kind of faithfulness, godliness, loyalty and love that God desires for us.
[as Ruth shows us . . . ]
“But Ruth replied, "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you.
Where you go, I will go and where you stay, I will stay.” (Ruth 1:16)
