The Book of Lamentations is a companion to the Book of Jeremiah and it is up next (and it is the twenty-fifth book of the Bible) as our review of the 'Major Prophets' section of the Bible continues:
Who wrote Lamentations and when?
Most believe Jeremiah wrote this in the 586-584 BC time frame.
What is it all about?
Jeremiah describes the sorrows of his fellow Israelites from their downfall, in their captivity, their hope and desire for mercy from God as they endure their punishment and God works His restoration.
And please note: Kimya Loder shared these words on this book that help give us added awareness: When the Book of Lamentations was written, the Israelites were mourning the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonian army, and they faced a series of challenges. However, in the midst of chaos, the writer boldly affirmed that because he was confidant that God would meet his needs, he would wait on Him (God).
Why should we know this? From it we learn that those then – like we now, can be in despair over hard times but no matter what . . .
we can trust in God's love.
”Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed,
for His compassion never fails.” Lamentations 3:22
