The Book of Jeremiah is up next (and it is the twenty-fourth book of the Bible) as our review of the 'Major Prophets' section of the Bible continues:
Who wrote Jeremiah and when?
It was written by Jeremiah in the 626-580 BC time frame.
What is it all about?
It is a collection of Jeremiah's writings that focus on God's justice and grace. The justice are the warnings that God has Jeremiah take to the Israelites to end their rebellion against God. But, since they would not listen, God's punishment was to allow them to be defeated and taken into exile. And although Jerusalem and the Temple would be destroyed, the people would be in exile for 70 years; their remnant (of people) would return and Babylon would then be punished as well for its evil.
Why should we know this? From this book we learn to recognize our sins, to repent and to learn from them as we grow in faith.
"For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
