What does it mean to live as a Christian? (in today's world, it is a challenge that many of us have)
Jesus said that He came that we may have life (John 10:10). The art of living that He offers is far more than Biblical knowledge, a hope for the future, or freedom from problems. It is a life of fulfillment, involvement, direction, and sacrifice here and now. Bruce adds... that to live as a Christian means to live under the lordship of Christ in a dynamic that may change with every situation. Christ came to make people whole, physically as well as mentally and spiritually.
We meet people in need every day, and as Christians we should know how to diagnose a person's need and how to bring relevant help. Unfortunately many Christians are not in any kind of relevant and sacrificial service to others. Bruce then provided these examples that we could consider and pursue:
First, at some point we have by an act of will turned the management of our lives over to Jesus Christ. We are not made perfect by it, but we begin a dynamic relationship that is growing in awareness of ourselves and of Christ's demands on us.
Second, is that we need to pursue a deep fellowship with a few other Christians - which is true friendship with continual openness and honesty with a few "significant others."
Third. is to enter into service to the world. At times this service certainly involves a spiritual (faith) ministry, but it must also involve physical, economic and social needs as well (do we see the opportunities?).
Jesus Christ has not called us simply to go out and 'be good,' but to live life with Him.
I thought all of this was good to ponder as we review our actions in our families, in our churches and in our communities. We can start by asking ourselves - are we living or just existing? If we think we want to change the path we are on, the above and what will be shared over the weeks to follow, are some good things that we may want to consider and pursue.
